Transforming the YOLO Movement

Is this Phrase in Need of a Makeover?

YOLO: You Only Live Once? This widely popular phrase is something I've spent some time thinking about. My take on the commonly used motto is that, while I think we should live life to the fullest, maybe this phrase could use a makeover.

A church leader told my group that YOLO should be changed to YOLOL: You Only Leave One Legacy(so credit to him for the name of this blog).

Now I know YOLOL doesn't quite sound as cool as YOLO, but I like to incorporate this idea into everyday life.
I think about what I want people to think of me as, and how I would like to feel about how I spend my time.
Here's a challenge: Go out and do good!

I'm going to try to end each post with a quote or phrase that will encourage you to do good and serve!

"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 5:16

  1. This really makes me think about how I can leave my legacy one to be remembered. I think it goes beyond just doing good in this world. I think as the verse above says, our goal should be to glorify our Father in Heaven. While doing good is definitly apart glorifying God, I personally think our main goal in life should be to glorify God in everything that we do.

  2. I agree with you completely! I think the phrase YOLO needs a makeover. I like the idea of living life to the fullest, but living it in such a way that you make a positve difference in the world!! How are you going to use/how do you suggest using YOLOL in everyday life?

    1. Thanks for your response. I think of YOLOL during everyday situations. If I feel someone is being mistreated or made fun of, I'll speak up. I want people to know that I stick up for what I believe in!

  4. Agree 100%! I've always thought that the YOLO movement is way overrated. Your (your church leader) version is a much better phrase that relates to what we want to do with our life in a more positive, less rash way. Great post!

  5. I don't think you could have said it any better! YOLOL is good to keep in mind because your reputation can either make you or break you.
