My Love for the Fierce Five: Determination, Humbleness, and TALENT!
The stakes couldn't have been higher for these five girls, just teenagers, this summer at the London 2012 Olympics. I don't know how this young team dealt with the massive pressure, with millions of people watching. Yet through the pressure and impressive competition, these girls won not only Olympic medals(team gold at that!), but they successfully won over the hearts of millions of viewers(including mine).
MORE ON THE GYMNASTS HERE
A quick breakdown of the medals:
-Each gymnast left with a team gold medal
-Gabby Douglas(middle) won the coveted All Around Gold Medal
-McKayla Maroney(first from left) won silver on vault
-Aly Raisman(next to last) won bronze on beam and gold on floor
Jordyn Weiber's Reaction to her Disappointment
Even with the pressure, a couple of these gymnasts' attitudes really stuck out to me. After facing the disappointment of not qualifying for all around, Jordyn Weiber said how proud she was of her fellow gymnasts, keeping it respectful and classy. After the disappointment, Jordyn kept a great attitude during an interview.
"It was hard [watching Aly on floor] because of course I wanted that spot, but I also wanted Aly to do her best for the team," she said after the competition.
Gabby Douglas's Reaction to All Around Gold
After winning gold in the coveted all around title, Gabby Douglas credited her successes to God.
"And I give all the glory to God. It's kind of a win-win situation. The glory goes up to Him and the blessings fall down on me," Gabby told an interviewer after the competition.
All Around Highlights
Wow! I personally think that is an amazing attitude from such a young athlete! Giving glory to God on national television is quite simply amazing, and I'm so thankful to have such an incredible athlete representing USA.
This really proves that not only are these girls talented athletes,(I wish I had kept doing gymnastics as a child!) but they represent USA well.
I hope that all the avid Olympic fans like me can try to replicate the gold medal worthy attitudes these girls demonstrated in the competition.
Leaving a Legacy Challenge: Even through the many disappointments we can face in life, keep a positive, encouraging attitude, and during successful moments, give the glory to God.
If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.
